The Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence and Technology (AIT) Degree Program at SDSU is a fully online, cutting-edge graduate program designed to meet the growing demand for skilled professionals in the foundations of artificial intelligence and the application of AI in future technologies.
The program covers theoretical analysis of AI techniques and their applications in real-world problems. It gives students a solid theoretical foundation and hands-on experience needed to thrive in today’s fast-changing tech landscapes. The AIT master’s program consists of 10 courses, plus one seminar, totaling 31 units. Students additionally need to either pass a comprehensive exam or write a research thesis. Anyone who chooses the exam option can also take CS 797 or CS 798 as an elective to work on hands-on projects and explore AI research under the supervision of computer science and AI faculty.

Admission Requirements
Students in the Computer Science MS program are eligible to apply for transfer to the AIT MS program in Spring 2027. Not all Computer Science courses can be applied to the AIT Master’s program.
You must have a bachelors in computer science or computer engineering in order to apply. Electrical engineering is also acceptable when paired with computer science courses.

Those with other STEM degrees, such as electrical engineering, are also acceptable. However, they will need to have taken some computer science courses, and will likely face many challenges.
The MS AIT degree program consists of 31 upper division units in different areas, including 5 core courses, 15 units of electives, and 1 graduate seminar.
The courses focus on machine learning, data mining, deep learning, as well as more specialized concepts like robotics, computer security, and big data tools.
The curriculum is fundamental but also has applied AI. This means that students learn how to train an LLM and fine tune it, set up a reg system, get and maintain all the data, automate the process, angelic programming, use AI to write code and give AI what it needs.
The classes in the online AIT degree program are taught by the same SDSU faculty who teach on campus and bring a broad array of academic and real-world experiences to the curriculum.
