Michael G. Simpson

Michael Simpson, PhD, is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Biology at San Diego State University. He is author of the textbook, Plant Systematics (3rd ed., 2019). He remains active in research projects focusing on American Amphitropic Disjunct plants and the phylogeny, taxonomy, and biogeography of the “popcorn flowers” (Boraginaceae, subtribe Amsinckiinae). He continues to travel to Chile and Argentina toward those research activities. Along with Dr. Lluvia Flores-Rentería, he is curator of the SDSU Herbarium and is a member of the Consortium of California Herbaria Administrative Committee.
